Über Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera [UK] ist die britische Version von Al Jazeera English, einem internationalen Nachrichtensender, der am 15. November 2006 startete. Der Kanal ist der englischsprachige Dienst des Al-Jazeera-Netzwerks und beruht auf Nachrichten, Reportagen und Dokumentationen für ein weltweites Publikum.

Vor dem Start war das Projekt unter dem Namen Al Jazeera International geplant, ging aber kurz vor der Ausstrahlung als Al Jazeera English an den Markt. Der Sender sendet rund um die Uhr und verbindet Nachrichten, Analysen, Interviews, Dokumentarfilme sowie Programme über internationale Politik, Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und Regionen, die in westlichen Medien oft weniger sichtbar sind.

Al Jazeera English gehört zum Al Jazeera Media Network. Der Hauptsitz befindet sich in Doha, weitere redaktionelle Büros arbeiten unter anderem in London und Washington. Im Tagesverlauf wechseln Nachrichtenblöcke, Dokumentationen, Wiederholungen und Sondersendungen.
