Das Programm besteht aus Dokumentarreihen über große Epochen, Biografien, Kriegsgeschichte, Technik, Architektur, Reisen und kulturelles Gedächtnis. Der Sender zeigt Geschichte nicht nur als trockene Chronik, sondern erzählt sie über Menschen, Orte, Archive, Alltagsdetails und größere historische Wendepunkte.

YESTERDAY hält einen ruhigen dokumentarischen Ton und verzichtet auf laute Show-Dramaturgie. Die Programmlinie besteht aus historischen Reihen, Dokumentarblöcken am Abend, Wiederholungen und Themenmarathons, wodurch der Sender im britischen Factual-TV klar erkennbar bleibt.
