NTV is a Russian federal television channel that has been on air since 10 October 1993. It was founded by journalists Oleg Dobrodeyev and Yevgeny Kiselyov, who had previously worked at Ostankino's First Channel. Initial funding came from Vladimir Gusinsky, the owner of Group Most.
The schedule features news and current-affairs programmes, films, series and entertainment shows. NTV also has an international version, "NTV Mir", and an HD version, NTV HD. In 2009 the channel joined the first digital television multiplex in Russia, and in April 2013 it switched to widescreen 16:9 broadcasting.
Since 14 April 2001, NTV has been owned by the Gazprom-Media holding. Alexei Zemsky is the general director. The channel broadcasts around the clock from Moscow and is available from major cable and satellite operators in Russia and the CIS.
