About Первый (Channel One Russia)

Channel One Russia is one of the largest federal television channels in the country. The channel has been on air since 1 April 1995 and, until September 2002, ran under the name "Obshchestvennoye Rossiyskoye Televideniye" (Public Russian Television, ORT).

The schedule mixes the daily news bulletins "Vremya" (Time) and "Novosti" (News) with current-affairs programmes, films, entertainment formats and sports broadcasts. Channel One broadcasts under the slogan "Always in First Place".

Konstantin Ernst is the channel's general director. Major shareholders include VTB (32.89%), Rosimushchestvo (26.11%) and the National Media Group (19.46%). The channel broadcasts around the clock from the Ostankino television centre in Moscow and is available from major cable and satellite operators across Russia and the CIS.
