Channel Five is a Russian federal television channel whose history goes back to 1938, when experimental television broadcasting began in Leningrad. In its current federal form, the channel has been on air since 1 October 2006.
Its programming brings together news broadcasts, documentary projects and detective series. Recurring projects include "Izvestiya" (News), "Izvestiya. Glavnoye" (News. Main Stories) and "Sled" (Trace). The channel broadcasts in HD format, 1080i 16:9.
Channel Five is part of the National Media Group holding. Yury Shalimov is the general director. The channel is available via digital terrestrial television, Russian cable networks and satellite providers.
