About National Geographic HD

National Geographic HD is the HD version of the international factual TV channel National Geographic in 1080i 16:9 (HDTV) format. The HD version carries the main National Geographic channel in high definition.

National Geographic HD shows popular-science films and series about nature, culture, history and discoveries. Recurring shows include "One Strange Rock", "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" and "The Story of God with Morgan Freeman".

The channel is owned by National Geographic Global Networks, a division of Disney Entertainment and National Geographic Partners, a joint venture of The Walt Disney Company (73%) and the National Geographic Society (27%). Broadcasting began in Europe and Australia in September 1997, and distribution in Russia is handled by the OOO NatGeo Russia subsidiary. The channel adopted the name National Geographic in a 2016 rebrand. National Geographic HD is available through Russian and international cable and satellite networks, as well as IPTV/OTT platforms.
