Karusel is a Russian terrestrial children's TV channel dedicated to children and teenagers. The channel began broadcasting on 27 December 2010 in Russian and operates around the clock. The channel was created from the merger of the children's channels Telenyanya and Bibigon — before that, the predecessor TV company operated under the names Erudit/TeleNyanya in 2006-2007.
The line-up centres on children's shows, animated cartoons, TV series and feature films. The channel regularly airs beloved Russian animated series including "Smeshariki", "Masha i Medved" (Masha and the Bear), "Fiksiki" (The Fixies), "Tri kota" (Three Cats) and "Barboskiny" (The Barboskins). About 60 percent of the broadcast time consists of educational and entertainment programmes produced in-house. The channel concept and on-air formats are developed with the participation of child psychologists and educators.
Karusel is owned by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise VGTRK and is a joint project of Channel One and VGTRK. The channel is part of Russia's first digital terrestrial multiplex. Outside Russia, the international version Karusel International is broadcast and distributed as a paid cable and satellite TV channel.
