About Спас (Spas)

Spas is Russia's first public Orthodox television channel. It broadcasts in Russian around the clock and reaches more than 98% of the country's population. The Moscow Patriarchate is its main owner.

The schedule combines news analysis, educational and outreach programmes, interactive live telethons, documentaries, Russian feature films, cartoons, children's shows and charitable social projects. About 60% of airtime is given to documentary, educational and outreach cycles, while the remaining 40% is connected with Orthodox themes.

Spas brings together church-service content and programmes about faith, Church history and culture, forming a substantive Orthodox and public-interest broadcast line. Spas began broadcasting on 28 July 2005. Its founders were Aleksandr Batanov, who died in 2009, and Ivan Demidov. In early 2019, the media registration and broadcasting licence were transferred from Spas TV LLC to the non-profit Foundation for Orthodox Television. Spas is carried through digital, satellite, cable and IPTV/OTT networks.
