About Россия 1 (Russia 1)
Russia 1 is a Russian federal television channel of the VGTRK holding. The channel traces its broadcast history back to 14 February 1956, when "Programma 2" (Programme 2) was launched. It has used its current brand name since 1991.
The schedule includes the news bulletins "Vesti" (News) and "Vesti Nedeli" (News of the Week), current-affairs programmes, films, documentaries, entertainment formats and sports. The channel uses the slogan "The Country's Main TV Channel". Anton Zlatopolsky is the general director.
The channel is owned and operated by VGTRK. Russia 1 broadcasts around the clock from Moscow and is available from major cable and satellite operators in Russia and the CIS.
