About HR HD
HR HD is the HD version of hr-fernsehen, the German regional public television channel for the federal state of Hesse. The channel belongs to Hessischer Rundfunk, is part of the ARD system and broadcasts in German in HD format.
The schedule is built around Hessenschau regional news, programmes about life in Hesse, documentary strands, cultural formats, cooking shows, music programmes and sports reviews. Frankfurt am Main, Kassel, Darmstadt, Giessen and other Hessian cities regularly appear in the channel's coverage.
hr-fernsehen began broadcasting on 5 October 1964 and became the main television window of Hessischer Rundfunk for the region. The HD version keeps the base channel's regional editorial line. HR HD is distributed through digital terrestrial television, cable, satellite and IPTV/OTT networks that carry German public channels.
