NDR HD is the regional television channel of the public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk for northern Germany in HD format. The programme began on 4 January 1965 as a third regional television service. It received the name N3 in 1989 and has operated around the clock since 1994.
The schedule includes regional news, NDR Info editions, documentaries, cultural programmes, entertainment formats, reports, shows about the cities and federal states of northern Germany and special public-service projects. The channel is connected with Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein.
NDR HD broadcasts in German and presents a northern German perspective in HD format. Joachim Knuth is the director general of NDR. Its schedule moves between news, regional editions, documentaries, films and evening programmes.
