5 Kanal Ukraine is a Ukrainian information television channel with a round-the-clock schedule of news, analysis, current-affairs programmes and documentary projects. Broadcasting in Kyiv began in August 2002, and since 2003 the channel has worked as a 24-hour service.
After a programming reform in 2005, 5 Kanal focused on information broadcasting. Feature films and music entertainment shows left the schedule, while news bulletins, studio discussions, analytical programmes and documentaries became the core of the channel. During that period, the channel used the slogan "The First Information Channel".
Petro Poroshenko owned the channel from 2003 to 2021. 5 Kanal Ukraine broadcasts in Ukrainian and keeps its focus on news, political context, public affairs and documentary reporting. News editions, talk shows and special projects form the main structure of the channel's schedule.
