About ITV
ITV is a British nationwide commercial free-to-air television channel and the flagship service of the ITV network. It began broadcasting on 22 September 1955 and became the first commercial free-to-air channel in the United Kingdom.
The channel is owned by ITV plc and broadcasts in English. Its schedule combines ITV News, current-affairs programmes, British and international series, films, entertainment shows, reality formats, sports coverage, talk shows and cultural programming. Recognisable titles include Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The X Factor and I'm a Celebrity.
ITV remains the foundation of the commercial network that also includes ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITVBe and other thematic channels. News, series, shows, sports broadcasts, daytime repeats and evening premieres shape the daily schedule.
