About UTV HD

UTV HD is the high-definition version of UTV, the regional television channel for Northern Ireland. The channel belongs to the ITV family, broadcasts in 1080i 16:9 (HDTV) and runs in English as the Northern Ireland version of Channel 3.

The schedule combines UTV News, local stories from Northern Ireland, regional reporting, cultural and public-affairs topics, and ITV network programmes: news, series, films, entertainment shows, sports coverage and talk shows. UTV's role is to connect the UK-wide ITV schedule with Northern Ireland's regional agenda.

The main UTV channel, formerly Ulster Television, began broadcasting on 31 October 1959. Since 2016, the UTV television business has belonged to ITV plc. UTV HD presents the regional service in high definition and is distributed through digital terrestrial television, cable, satellite and IPTV/OTT networks that carry British regional channels.
